The City provides a variety of athletic opportunities for the youth of Diamond Bar. These athletic programs are designed to build self-esteem and teach the basic fundamentals of the sport in a safe and positive environment. Using the model of T.E.A.M.-Together Everyone Achieves More, children have the opportunity to make friends, develop sportsmanship, learn how to compete and cooperate, cultivate leadership skills, be physically fit, and develop a positive self-concept in an enjoyable recreation environment.
To support this high level of positive sportsmanship, the Diamond Bar City Council and Parks and Recreation Commission has approved a City-wide Parent's Code of Ethics which is signed by all parents prior to children participating in the program. This form serves as a reminder that the programs are built around the needs and desires of a developing child.
In addition to the Parent's Code of Ethics, all youth sports programs implement a Sportsmanship Award system. Rather than keeping records to determine a champion, the scores are kept to determine which team, in each age division, demonstrated the highest level of sportsmanship throughout the season. This system provides coaches, parents, and children the opportunity to direct their focus on the fundamentals and enjoyment of recreation sports. Through these programs and proper support, Diamond Bar's youth sports become a building block in a child's athletic development.
Designed for children ages 4 to 9, the program offers a instructional and recreational opportunity for boys and girls in a fun atmosphere. Practices are held 30 minutes prior to each game on Saturdays, beginning in March and continuing through June, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran School (23300 Golden Springs Drive).
The "Below the Rim" youth basketball league is designed to teach and enhance basketball knowledge and skills in a recreational and fun atmosphere for children ages 4-14. Games are played on Saturdays and practices begin in mid-December at Pantera Park , and games begin the first week of January continuing through the end of March.
